Staff We are the only hospital in our area with two licensed veterinary technicians on staff. Our technicians are licensed by the state and have graduated from an AVMA approved program. Both our veterinarians and technicians must meet continuing education requirements in order to renew their license every 2 years.
This assures our clients and patients of the high quality of care they have come to expect. Along with our technicians, our veterinary assistants are also highly trained to perform a variety of procedures. This gives our veterinarians more time to devote to our patients and their caring owners.

"Tuxedo" is our "kitten in training" to take over "Russells'" duties. "Tux" was found by Dr. Farrell's youngest son, Aidan, under their deck on the 4th of July (2009). He was a tiny little thing only weighing about 1 pound and covered with lice. The staff immediately fell in love with him. After several baths to get rid of all the lice, he started his "training". The staff has been teaching him how to interact with other pets and helping him learn which pets to leave well enough alone. He plays constantly with a variety of toys the staff has brought him. They have spoiled him rotten. His favorite is the pirate ship Paula got him. It has provided hours of entertainment for him and us! He has become very loving and greets each staff member as they arrive for work. We are beginning to let him out to visit clients. He's quite the ambassador! He loves to run at top speed through the hospital exploring everything possible. But beware, he likes to bite when he gets excited or you rub his belly. We're still working on breaking that bad habit. Maybe the next time you drop in you'll see him out and about!!! |

July 24th, 2009 was a sad day at
Russell
Veterinary
Hospital. Our hospital cat, “Russell”, developed oral cancer and his quality of life diminished rapidly. It was that day our staff decided it was time to say their good byes to our beloved friend.
“Russell” came to us after he had a bad run in with a car that damaged his hips and required surgery. That is why he always walked with that distinctive swagger that everyone came to recognize. From then on he continued to touch the lives of the staff and clients of
Russell
Veterinary
Hospital for 16 wonderful years. It wasn’t just the staff that loved him but the clients as well. They grew accustomed to seeing that handsome tiger that greeted them at the front desk, if he wasn’t too busy sunning himself in the window. He would often be there when clients needed a friend for comfort when making difficult decisions for their pets.
We remember “Russell” as the cat who would chase around the mop strings while we were cleaning up at night. He had a sixth sense about dogs, knowing which dogs he could go up to and which ones to steer clear of. “Russell” had a reputation of having a big sweet tooth. It was a well known fact you had to keep your donuts, muffins, pop-tarts, etc. out of his sight if you wanted to enjoy them yourself. More than once we caught him nibbling on our sweets. He was even known for biting through the cellophane box top when no one was looking (glazed donuts were his favorite). Our weekend staff member, Darcy, provided “therapy” for “Russell” every Saturday with catnip and rub downs.
“Russell” spent his days entertaining staff and clients as he followed the sunshine as it moved from window to window. He loved teasing our old African Gray parrot, “Festus,” who has now found a home with Darcy. You could hear him chittering at the birds and chippies at the feeder outside the treatment room window. “Russell” brought joy and light to the hearts of those who knew him. He spent many years as a silent diplomat overseeing day to day activities of the office. We miss that “handsome boy kitty” greeting us every morning with a purr waiting to be brushed (another one of his favorite things). He is greatly missed and will always be remembered!
For those of you who remember our birds "Festus" and "Cody", we are happy to announce they have found new homes. "Festus" has gone to live with Darcy at her home. He is enjoying himself immensely and provides Darcy with endless entertainment. She says he has developed a whole new vocabulary and will talk for hours!
"Cody" has gone to live with a neighbor of Amanda's. He too is having lots of fun in his new home.
